English Language Challenges

For this blog i’m going to answer each question separately

-What comments can i make about my experience learning english at university?

Really i think i have not learned many new things here, maybe some words or expressions, vocabulary in general, but nothing very important.

-What about the use of blogs?

Well, i think this is a very good tool, because it forces us to use all the vocabulary we have, or the most part of it. Since i started doing this, i feel i can write more fluently, also i can speak more fluently too. I really like this teaching method, i like it more than clases, the truth is that these are very boring! I think these are not necessary, there should be only english lab, to do blogs. For example, to learn about the future, present or past in english, we could have blogs related to that, i don’t know, write about things you liked to do in the past, or write a story… Maybe, teachers could show us a recording, and we would have to write about what we heard there, or something like that, more fun or interesting things that be sitting in a chair filling a work guide, for a person like me, that is so boring, do the same thing for 2 hours! :c

-What aspects of my english i need to improve?

Mmmm i need to improve my fluency when i’m speaking and expand my vocabulary…

How am i going to do it? Well, i have an app in my mobile cellphone, called Duolingo, it is a very good app to learn languages.

-Outside the english class…

I don’t use English too much, only in duolingo, or when i see some movie, but in december i will go to USA, so i think i’m going to use it more there jajaja

Changes To My Study Programme

Generally, i like my study programme, but is true that it could be better, for example:

In my career, the first semester we had a subject called “introduction to the career of chemistry”, in my opinion, this subject was absolutely useless!!!! We had to listen the presentation of different people related with the career and made a summary, but this presentations never had a relationship between them, also was soooo boring L L L I think I really didn’t learn anything, a total waste of time :/. Instead this semester we have a subject called “chemistry and society”, this is much better planned, we learn about things more useful and listen people really related with the career. So I think “introduction to the…..”  has to be removed to the curriculum!

In relation to the workload and the length of studies, I think they are well :3

This faculty is too small in every way, for example, when it is raining, only the 36% of the students have a place to lunch. Also the library is too small and noisy L

We all agree that technology is very important to the studies, but I think teachers or someone should teach how to use books better, because I’m sure that the half of students doesn’t know how to find the information they are looking for.

In relation to the teaching methods, some teachers believe that because they know a lot about some subject, they can be cruel with a student who had an error. They must to understand we all have different times to learn…

summer holidays

I think we are all waiting for summer, this year has been a bit stressful, also the winter was too long :c

Summer holidays are never enough to do everything we want, so I always think which are the most important things that I want to do. For example, this summer I want to go to the south of Chile. Last summer i went there, I was in Chiloé, Puerto Montt and Puerto Varas but there are so many things to see and do!! Time is not enough.

I want to go to Torres del Paine, Chiloé, Punta arenas, cross all the Austral road. I really want to do this with my boyfriend and friends; I think summer vacations are the best moment to relax your mind and, what better than be with people who think just like you?

Also I want to be with my family, in December we will go to USA for one week, we gonna visit NY, Washington and New Jersey, it sounds really funny! I always want to go to USA. The best thing is we will go with my aunt and my two cousins, I am excited to go because I miss them so much :C

Bogotá, Colombia

After of that, we will go to Colombia, to see the rest of our family, we will be there Christmas and New Year. I usually see my family once a year, so you will understand how much I want to go jajaja

I want to do so many other things, but i have to be realistic with time and money jajaja 

Addictions

I think in this world are many things that can be considered like drugs, in my opinion the worst drug is one thing people use all times, sugar. It is usually used to make the meals more sweet, for example the coffee, tea, cakes, even salty food has sugar. I'm allergic to sugar and find some food without sugar is really imposible!!!! 💔
I think is the worst drug because people use it without care, for example, to make a cake i have to use 300 gr of sugar! is too much, in nature, all have narutal sugar, why we need more?
When i found out that i was allergic, i had to stop eating it, the expirence was terrible, 2 week later of that, i felt i was going to die, i needed to eat something sweet, i even tought in go to the supermarket, buy a bag of sugar and eat it with a spoon jajaja (abstinence syndrome? where? jajaja)

Well, i know other drugs like cigarettes, alcohol, crack, LSD, cocaine... its effects are so terrible, people changes completely. It is a problem to the person, but also to the society, because everybody have people nearby, so it is a risk because they can drag with them to others.
i know one person with this problem, is a friend mine, she was addict to cocaine. It was a very sad sitation, she works only to have money to buy. We talked with her, and finally, after so many problems, she understood it wasn't the best.

I really do not consider marihuana as a drug at all, it doesn't produce addiction (in my opinion) and have so many beneficts, most of them are medicinal beneficts, like analgesic, antibiotic. I have tried marihuana one time.. (si claro...), but as i said before, i don't consider it like a drug 👀👀👀👀
In the hole history, only 19 people have died for marihuana effects. Are needed 680 Kg of marihuana to have a letal dose, but are needed 5gr/Kg in an adult to be a letal dose.

Post Graduate Studies

In my personal opinion, post graduate studies are very important because they allow to have a greater knowledge on a particular subject and have a bigger personal development. This studies can be PhD, diplomate, master degree and others. Most of it are useful to the society, they help to meet the needs of people.

Mmmm really i do not have any idea of what i am gonna study in future jaja my idea is study other career, like medicine, arts, veterinary or something i want when i get graduate. But i would like to make a PhD in Chemistry too, more specifically, in organic chemistry area, because i really like that area, i think that it have so many things that are not studied yet, so many things to discover, i don't know jajaja

If i make a PhD, i would like to do it here, in this school, immediately after i get graduate of my career. But if in the future i decide to study other career, i would like to do it in other country, Germany for example, because it is free $$$$, or Russia. (i want to travel!!! jaja)

Well, i don't know what i'm gonna do, i only know i love the laboratory work, whatever i will do in the future, i would like to work there 💗

Old and New Hobbies

The people's hobbies are very different, for example, my mom likes to listen classical music and hates to cook, my dad collects coins from different countries, other people likes to read, dance, play video games and a lot kind of things.

My favorites hobbies are playing handball and drawing, but the most important to me is the last one 💓💓💓💓💓

I like to draw since i was a child, i don't remember when i started with this, but is very important because it relaxes me.

Generally, i don't have much time for doing that because i spend so many hours. I take my art things and an idea and i can be 2 or 3 hours in just one draw.

I took 3 hours in finish this draw, at the end i just want to burn it, i were really tired jajaja

 I really love do that. In some moment of my life, i would like to study arts 💪 it is like an impossible dream jajaja💔

People always tell me that i could be a very good tattoo artist, because of that, this summer i learned to tattoo, i have only made 5 or 6, but people have loved it :3 💁 jajaja


Hobbies i would never have? mmm reading... it is not my thing jajaja

In the future i want to play volleyball as a hobby <3 (next year maybe, i don't know...)

Our amazing human body

All organs and systems of the human body are amazing to me, because all performs very important functions, for example, the heart carries blood to the whole body to oxygenate organs, carry nutrients and remove the impurities through the blood... Eyes receive the visual information and transport it to the brain to be processed, all of these things happens in a very short time, almost imperceptible. 

 

I think that one of the most important organs to life is the intestine, in that place is where most of the nutrients are absorbed, is the largest area of exchange of substances. Is located in the abdomen, under the thorax. Intestine is conformed of two parts, the largest part is the small intestine, its measure is between 6 and 11 meters, the shortest part is the large intestine, its measure is of 1,5 meters.

This are the most common bowel diseases:

-Chronic diarrhea 

-irritable bowel syndrome 

-Tumors of the small intestine

For a perfect bowel function, the most important thing is a good diet. 

Recently i have been hearing about food allergy produced for a bad diet, because of that reason, now young people are sick of things that doctors called "disease of old people", like diabetes, hypertension, tumors...

Holidays!!

All of us wait holidays for all year, is the best moment!!
I always liked to travel, my family and i were lived in a lot of places, the best to me was a town called "Cañete" in the south of Chile, we lived in front of the lake Lanalhue, it was a little warm because it had a volcano under the ground, near to us was a forest and we had a dog and many cats!!!!!!!!!!! (i love cats <3 <3 <3 <3 <3)

So, because i always travel with my family for job, i am very accustomed to moving.
My favorite holidays was this summer, my brother, two friends, my boyfriend and i went to the south, we were in Temuco, Valdivia, Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Frutillar, Chiloé, and others. It was just three weeks but it seemed like a year jajaja we walk so much, met so many people and ate lots of weird things jaja

Natural Reserve Alerce Andino

It was the best travel i had ever made in my life because i saw lots of beautiful things and i enjoyed many lovely moments with all. I learned too much about trees, animals, food and customs of the local people.

We visited a natural reserve called "Alerce Andino ", it was a very, very big place, with so many thing to do and visit, and all were really beautiful, we walked around 25 km that day. At the end of the day we were dead, but very happy jajaja
When we arrived to Chiloé, we had not place to stay, so we just looked for an empty place and we put our tent jajaja.

a country you would like to visit

The world is so big, i think i would like to visit all countries, but i'm sure that a whole life wouldn't be enough to go to all :c
So, for that reason, i made a list (so many years ago jajaja) with the countries i really want to visit, and the first is Egypt, i love that country, i don't know why, but all in there is atractive to me jajaja.
I know about the Egyptian civilization, the tombs, the pyramids....

When i was younger, i bought a book about the Egyptian civilization, it had information about a very famous expedition was trying to find the tomb of the god Osiris, also it had pictures, letters, little parts of clothes, and other amazing kind of things.

I think it is a very beautiful place. I would like to visit the pyramids, see the Cairo river, buy many books of Egyptian civilization, take many pictures. But i want to go with a group, because i want to meet people, maybe learn something from a different language, also learn from other cultures.

Mmm well, i would not like to live there, maybe i could study something, history of Egyptian art for example, but for a short time, because i want to go to other paleces jajaja but the principal reason is because i would like to live in Switzerland, Finland, or Germany, maybe Italy, i don't know, something like that jajaja. <3 <3 <3 <3

Your blogging experience

Since i was a child, i always liked to write, i remember that i wrote many histories about lots of things, one of them was about some very similar to toy story jaja. After that i remember one time that i wrote a story about a girl that had a perfect life with a perfect family and one day she just wake up in something totally different, like her past life were just a dream, but i don't remember if i finished that jajaja

I really like to write, so i think because of that this activity was very funny to me.

Some subjects were a little bit boring jaja but anyway i enjoyed it :3

Also, i think that activities like this foster the mind, make us work for be better. For example, when i start writing this blog was difficult to me think and write in other language, but with the past of time i noticed that is more easy, as if ideas flowed.

In my opinion, in future this activity should be about topics that are interesting or fun for each student, they should choose the topic.

I would like to write about ideas for a better country and world, and read my classmates' opinions of the same subject, all kind of opinions, i would like something like a blog for debates :D jajaja 

From the invisible to the visible world and back

Nano-particles in food.
For the cultivation or production of these foods were used the technology of nano-particles, the nanotechnology can be used to improve the taste of food or to better use some nutrients, like vitamins, also Nanotechnology could prevent some foods expire so fast, it could reduce the fats of a hamburger for example.
This subject is very important for my career and for any scientific career, because it promises to end the lack of food in the world, producing more and cheaper food. I choose this because i think that is an interesting subject, the benefits this could bring would be amazing and would be  available to all!!!
The uses of nanotechnology in foods in the future could be many, the most important to me is it could end the world hunger, and bring others benefits, like food with longer use.
I learned about this subject like 2 or 3 years ago, because my mom was studying something called "bioregulator medicine" that works with nanotechnology....

the most enjoyable subject

In this place, almost all subjects are interesting to me, but the most enjoyable is Chemistry lab, that is my favorite subject , because the things we do in this class are very funny, interesting and important for my professional life. We do a lot of activities, first, the teacher explains the experimental activity and then gives a demonstration.

This subject has two parts, first we have a theoretical class that serves for the laboratory of next week and then we go to the laboratory to perform the experimental activity of the last week class. So this subject is theoretical and practical.



Chemistry lab is interesting in itself, but to me is interesting because i learn a lot of things that will be useful for my future.



In the laboratory are many people, teachers (one for each group), auxiliares and students, lots of students jaja, almost sixty students i think. For that reason, we have to consider many safety standards.
Teachers are very important for my academic life, they patiently explain each of the activities we have to do and are be able to answer any question.
This subject is the basis for the rest of my subjects, for that reason is importan in my decision.
I think in this laboratory we seen many contents that are important, but to me, the most importan was "titration".

Person/Expert you admire

In history there is a very long list of people worthy of admiration, but in this moments, i think in Rosa Parks. Her birth name is Rosa Louise McCauley. She was born on February 4th, 1913, in Alabama and was a very importan person in Civil rights movement in the United States

On December 1, 1955, she refused to give the seat to a white man, because of this action was taken to prison, and that was what motivated the movement to carry out peaceful protests.

Incident in the bus:

December 1, 1955, Rosa was 42 years old and was on a bus. In that moment of history, the public transport was divided in two parts, the first was for the white people, and the second part was for black people. A young white man got on the bus, the driver asked her to give him his seat, to that, she said "no". Was taken to prison for public disorder. Because of that, Martin Luther king organized protests for the civil rights.

I like her because I think it takes a lot of courage to do that she did.

My favourite book and film

Mmm reading is not my favourite hobby, but i like many books, some of them are "la ciudad de las bestias" from Isabel Allende, "un mundo feliz" from Aldous Huxley, "un gato callejero llamado Bob" from James Bowen. The two last are very interesting because their stories are about things that are important to me, society and cats jajaja
The first of them, in short, is about a kind of perfect society, where you born with a specific job and you have to do it for all life. Also the society are separated in differents levels of hierarchy.
The second is about a drug addict musician, who is saved from the streets by a cat called bob.
I readed this books when i were in school.

My favourites films are The lord of the rings, i really love those movies. When i was a child, i saw it for firts time with my brother and i liked so much, its music, its performances and the beautiful places that the director choose to record the films.

 In june of last year, i came to my house with this little cat. At the beginning, we thought that this cat were a boy, so i called it "killua", but a few days later, i realized that "he" was a girl, so i called it "mikaela".
She is very beautiful and playful kitten, also she has a looooooooot of hair.








In the last picture, mika had around three months, but now, she has almost a year and looks like this:

I like this photo because represents what she is to me, although it was difficult to take because she is very restless.

Music in my life

Music is something very important to me, i do everything with music, for example, i can not go to university in the morning without music, it is like a part of me.

I like almost any kind of music, except the tango jajaja i don’t know, but i think is boring to listen it.

My favourite kind of music is reggae, groups like “cultura profetica”, their lyrics are very interesting, i like they so much.

Classical music likes me too, but i listen it only when my mom is in home.

I love all kind of instruments, i think that are one of the best invents of humanity.

My favourite instrument is the piano. When i was child, i learn to play piano with my brother and a teacher that was a very nice person. I remember that my brother and i gave many concerts in my parent’s work, those were some of the best experiences of my life.

My family are very musical jajaja, my mom plays the guitar, my brother plays the piano, my other brother plays guitar and fiddle. My cousin Carolina is an orchestra director, she sings and plays all kind of instrument that i can imagine.

I also like groups like “calle 13”, “villa cariño”, “los jaivas”, “los miserables”, and singers like Silvio Rodriguez, Dread mar I, Carlos vives, and others.

I always remember the music of The lord of the rings, is very beautiful.

When i was younger, i liked Mägo de Oz, but not now, their music is nice but the new singer is not very good.

your favourite piece of technology

My favourite piece of technology is the smarphones, maybe this doesn´t sound very creative, because many of us perhaps put this object in our lists, but i really think that is an amazing machine.

Its use is very important for today, we can talk with people who are far away, on the phone or chatting, we can listen music of any artist that we want, we can study with it, take photos, send mails, watch a movie, use internet, play games, learn lenguages, you can see the map when you are lost (it is something that happens to me very often jaja) and other things.

I got my first phone in 2010 but that was a real rubbish jajaja, it was from my brother and had like 3 years  of use or something like that, but it worked to call, that was the important thing.

For my birthday in 2014, i received my last smatphone, i really loved it, i could do whatever i wanted whit it. Now it’s old but still working fine.

I use it for everything, i study with it, listen music, read books, take photos of my cat jajaja, etc.

Mmmm i think that life without it would be better in some ways, because people will be able to talk more face to face or spend more time with family and Friends. But there are many things that would be harder to do without smartphones.

Why did i choose this career?

Well, i really dont know, during my whole life i wanted to study medicine, that was the only career i knew, i think because my parents are doctors. But when i was is high school, i feel that was not what i liked. I started thinking about study art or something like that. I also liked engineering, but i didn´t want to dedicate my life to that, so i really didn't know what to study.
When i finished highschool, i decided to study medicine, because i had no other option jaja
I enter in a program of studies for pass to medicine, but that really doesn't liked me. In that program, the University showed me other careers....

getting to know each other

My name is Lina Bau, i´m 19 years old. I was born in Bogota, Colombia. I lived there just three years and then my family and i travelled to south of Chile.
My mom is colombian and my dad is chilean, they met in Moscu, Russia. They studied medicine in a university called Patricio Lumumba. Got married in 1983 and had a son, my older brother Carlos, in 1986.
After of that, when they have finished theirs careers, travelled to Colombia for jub. My other brother, Miguel, was born in 1992. I really love him, we grown up together.
Carlos is an engineer and live here in Santiago with his wife Valentina, she also is an egineer.
Miguel was studying medicine but he decided to study chimestry and pharmacy, so now he is studying that and is very happy.
I don´t remember to much my grandparent, cousins and aunts, i think i see them 6 times in my life, but in spite of the distance, i talk too much with my cousins and i love them.
I studied in college Sagrados Corazones de Providencia, in that place i met lots of peapol and also met my best friends, Sofia and Jose.
 Lats year, i was in University San Sebastian in a plan of studies for pass to medicine, but it doesn´t likes me, so i decided to study Chimestry and i want the Universidad de Chile.
In the future, i want to travel arround the world, i really want to met Egypt and have lots of cats.
